Description

Mounted Staghorn Fern Workshop.  1pm – 2.30pm

Location:  The Garden Museum

Join me at The Garden Museum on the 29th September for a Staghorn Fern mounting workshop.

The workshop will take place during the much anticipated Houseplant festival and you will need a £5 ticket to gain entry to the festival which you can purchase in the drop down menu below. (Choose workshop only if you already purchased your festival ticket)

In this relaxed and informal workshop you will mount one of these antler-like ferns onto a wooden board complete with a hook ready to hang it up on your wall at home! During the workshop you will learn all about these amazing plants and create a beautiful piece for your walls.

Staghorn Ferns have earned the nickname ‘Vegan Antlers’ due to the antler-like ‘fronds’ that grow out from the center of the plant. These Staghorns look stunning when wall mounted to show off these fronds to maximum effect.

The workshop includes all materials and hands on assembly instructions you need to create your own ‘living wall art’

Staghorn Ferns (Platycerium) are ‘epiphytes’ meaning they grow in their natural habitat attached to a host plant as a base and take nutrients from the air. This makes them excellent candidates for mounting on to a wooden board as they require little root space to survive. During the workshop we will also talk about plant care instructions so you can keep your new best ‘frond’ in tip top condition. Ticket price of £35 includes all materials and the workshop is suitable for all levels – no experience required!

About the Houseplant Festival

The Garden Museum’s first Houseplant Festival will take place on Sunday 29 September 2019, 11am – 5pm. Curated by Alice Vincent, author of How to Grow Stuff and writer for The Telegraph, this all-day celebration of houseplants will bring the thriving online plant community to life in our friendly Museum. Meet your favourite Instagram plant experts, pick up some tips for looking after your precious greenery, take part in a workshop, attend a talk, enjoy some food and a drink from the Garden Café, and of course, do a little plant shopping while you’re at it.

Sellers at the Houseplant Festival will include a curated selection of plant shops, stylists, artists and designers for all your urban jungle needs – from gorgeous plants of all sizes, to design-led pots, planters and hangers, artisan horticultural ephemera, botanically-inspired art, books, and magazines.

Visitors can also sit in on a houseplant clinic with our panel of experts Jane Perrone, Kimberly Aston, Gynelle Leon and Dr Laura Jenkins; attend a talk presented by Bloom, a beautiful magazine for gardeners, plant admirers and nature lovers; or bring along a plant to give to a new home at London Terrariums’ plant swap.
